TuckerToday Website News

This is a report on development of the TuckerToday website, just to let you know things are happening and progress is being made.

Content is King

2006 apr 11

OK, so I didn't take care of the Zoning section over the last few months as promised. What can I say? Life happened, things came up, and priorities changed. ;-) Instead, work went into improving the quality of what was already in place -- the newsletter, the community calendar, and editing some of the text.

It was a pleasant surprise to receive so many requests for the Newsletter. Subscriptions are up to 350. Thankyou everyone for your interest in Tucker and this website, and thanks also for your suggestions and feedback. It's good to know that word is getting out about TuckerToday, and I hope that as time goes on it develops into a useful resource for the community.

The main focus over the last few months has been on adding events to the Calendar -- there are currently 104 entries. It took some time to write and edit the text itself, but I think it was worth it because the idea of the calendar is for event descriptions to be informative and interesting rather than just a simple list of dates and locations. At this point each event has to be added manually by the web admin, which is a bit time-intensive for one person. In the future it will be set up so the public can add events themselves and that should be more fun for everyone.

With the Newsletter and Calendar more or less under control, next on the list is to add a Website of the Month award, write lots of News articles, and take care of that Zoning section. In addition, there's a surprise in the works that will be announced later once it's ready. (How's that for a shameless tease?)

Calendar Complete

2005 dec 20

The Newsletter is all set up and the Events Calendar is pretty much in place. Next on the list is a complete overhaul of the Zoning section during the months of December and January. Work has already begun with the addition of a current report on rezoning activity in Tucker.

Grand Opening

2005 sep 25

TuckerToday.com was "tossed together" over Labor Day weekend to act as a placeholder for information on the Tucker LCI Study that had just begun. In order to make the LCI information available to the public as quickly as possible the rest of the website was filled with minimal content and features. Over the next few months the remaining content and programming will be developed as time permits (this is a volunteer project, afterall ;-)). The following is a report on how things are going.

  • 8/6/05 — Web hosting set up.
  • 8/9/05 — Listserv mailing list created. First issue of the email newsletter sent out.
  • 9/1/05 — Grand Opening. Website installed with basic file structure and minimal content.
  • 9/14/05 — Events Calendar installed with database and cms programming.
  • 9/25/05 — Text written for Mission Statement and About Us page.
