The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) developed the Livable Centers Initiative to help foster greater livability in the region's employment and activity centers. The challenge of livability is to create communities where we can live, work, and feel connected to our neighbors. LCI provides seed money to communities like Tucker that are working to enhance livability and mobility for their residents. The goals of the LCI program can be summarized as three general concepts: mixed land use, transportation options, and public involvement.
The Tucker LCI Study
The Tucker Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is part of an ongoing effort to promote the revitalization of downtown Tucker and to reestablish Main Street as a central point for the greater Tucker community. Five community meetings will be held from August to December, 2005 to gain input from the community on what type of development there should be in the downtown Tucker area.
What is an LCI?
What is the Tucker LCI Study?
The Tucker Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) study focuses on the revitalization of the Tucker downtown area. The proposed study area for the Tucker LCI project is bounded by Brockett Road on the west, LaVista Road on the north, and Lawrenceville Highway on the south and east.
The LCI study will look to reestablish Main Street in Tucker as a central point for the greater Tucker community. The study will help create a more pedestrian-friendly and interconnected town center by encouraging walking and other modes of transportation to and around the commercial core. Proposed strategies will also consolidate development into a higher density central area with easier access to shopping, jobs, recreation and a range of housing options.
How will it affect me? Why should I participate?
That's like asking, "Why should I vote in an election?" By participating in the Tucker LCI Study, you are "voting" on how downtown Tucker will be redeveloped over the next couple of years. The study addresses the possibility of incorporating high density development in the downtown area — providing a mix of commercial, office, recreation, and housing options — as well as improving mobility on the major corridors. This is your opportunity to have a say in what changes take place and what it will be like to live here in the near future.
